Guardian Homes
ArctiCircle Malamutes remains committed to keeping our breeding dogs and litters in our home as opposed to making them kennel dogs. In order to keep moving forward with a successful breeding program, we need to maintain more breeding dogs than we can accommodate living in our home as our pets.
A guardian dog lives with the guardian home as their pet. We retain breeding rights to that dog for a set period of time. Once the dog’s breeding career is completed, they are spayed and live for the rest of their life as the guardian home’s pet.
Guardian homes allows us to keep a smaller number of malamutes in our home, raise our puppies in our home, and spend time training and competing with our dogs outside of the home. It is very important to us that ALL of our puppies are pets first and foremost, no matter if they stay with us, go to a guardian home, or a show/working home.
Can anyone become a guardian home?
No, we maintain very high standards as to who can own our dogs and how they are treated and cared for. All guardian homes sign a contract that outlines exactly what the terms of the agreement are. Guardians must live within a reasonable driving distance from us, preferably within the state of Iowa but families within surrounding states are also considered.
What costs are associated with being a guardian?
You are responsible for daily care and normal costs associated with owning a dog: food, grooming, and basic vet bills. We pay all costs related to breeding, whelping, showing, and health testing.
Why join our Guardian Home program
You receive the pick puppy in the litter at a discounted fee and are compensated for each litter she has with us. We pay for all of her OFA health testing, showing, and titles. Our Guardian dogs are treated just like our own dogs and have no more then three litters so they can enjoy life like a regular dog. Not all of our Guardian Home puppies end up being used in our breeding program. If we decide not to use the puppy, the puppy is yours at no extra cost and is required to be spayed.
